Septic Tank Facts

The most common failure for septic systems is from roots, saturated soil, clogged filter, tank full of solids or leaks / running water in the house. When the effluent can’t pass through the drainfield the water level in the septic tank increases and sewage backs up in the house or seeps out above the septic system.

If you use a garbage disposal, you will need your tank pumped more frequently.

Septic systems serve about 25 million homes in the United States.

Before the septic tank & system was invented, people used what is called a cess pit or cess pool. The cess pit consisted of a manmade hole in the ground where waste was dumped. Some of the solids were digested in the pit and the remaining fluid would seep into the ground.
